Hives
Raised, red welts called hives can be symptoms of an infection or allergies. Hives might be itchy, but often they don’t cause any discomfort. If you develop hives that persist for more than a few days, we can work with you to prescribe a treatment and keep you comfortable. Keep in mind that hives are most often benign and not indicative of a serious underlying condition.
Vitiligo
Vitiligo is an autoimmune condition where inflammation attacks the pigment of the skin, leaving white patches. The white patches do not cause symptoms, however it can make patients feel very self-conscious. Vitiligo is not a harmful condition and does not preclude patients from living normal lives, however in our sunny climate the white skin does not have a way to protect itself from sun damage. There are various treatment options for vitiligo including the use of topical creams or light treatments.
Alopecia Areata
This condition occurs when the immune system misfires and attacks the hair follicles, resulting in hair loss. Typically, alopecia is confined to the scalp. It doesn’t usually cause other symptoms. Alopecia can be extremely distressing for affected patients. Depending on the severity of your condition and other factors, our team can develop a treatment plan to help with regrowth and may include topical steroid creams or other immune-modulating techniques.
